The
foundry industry is the industry that uses cast metallic
products (steel, aluminium, copper, cast iron, magnesium,
lead, titanium, zinc, etc.).
It
consists of pouring a molten metal alloy into a mold to
obtain a part with the same shape as the mold after it
solidifies.
The
foundry industry thus controls the metallurgy (metal and
alloys) and geometry (shapes and volumes) of the parts
that it makes.
It
uses casting procedures appropriate for the alloy used,
the number of parts to be made, and their shape and weight
(varying from one gram to a hundred tonnes).
It
is used in all main markets throughout the world (aeronautical,
automotive, chemicals, construction, defense, energy,
railway, mechanical, telecommunications, etc.).
