The ATF
(Association Technique de Fonderie - Foundry Engineering Association)
was created in 1911 with the following purposes:
- to continue
making improvements to metallurgy, melting, pouring and casting
of the different metals and alloys and related techniques;
- to unit,
educate and inform its members, encouraging their ongoing
training by improving their scientific, technical, technological,
human and administrative knowledge.

The CTIF
(Centre Technique des Industries de la Fonderie - Foundry Industry
Engineering Center) is the only research and development center
in Europe dedicated to the various foundry disciplines, for
ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
It was constituted
in 1948 at the initiative of French founders, their professional
organization and the public authorities. It contributes to broadening
the skills of the profession and improving foundry productivity,
through its research, standardization, training and technological
distribution.
Its resources
consist of teams of research workers and consulting engineers,
research laboratories and technical transfer teams organized
in work groups located in densely populated industrial regions.

The ESF
(Ecole Supérieure de Fonderie - Advanced Casting School) recently
celebrated its 75th anniversary, and was created in 1923 at
the initiative of the profession and with the support of the
Under-Secretary for Technical Education. Foundry was one of
the very first branches of industry in France to have its own
specialized school for the training of its executives. It now
trains engineers and technicians.
Since it
was created, the ESF has trained almost 1600 students and professionals,
including a large proportion of engineers from other engineering
schools.
Education
is deliberately turned towards industrial realities. The teaching
college is composed of about sixty members chosen among reputable
teachers and the highest qualified engineers in the profession,
including some from the C.T.I.F. and some from industry.
CAEF
(Comité des Associations Européennes de Fonderie -
European Foundry Associations Committee)
The CAEF
was created in 1953 at the initiative of France, and its objective
is to:
- Represent
European foundry industries with the European Commission
- Deal
with any question about the life of companies
- Exchange
and distribute any information about European casting.
It was originally
constituted by professional organizations in the six founder
member countries of the Common Market, and now represents 16
countries (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland,
France, United Kingdom, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Netherlands,
Poland, Portugal, Sweden, The Czech Republic). Different countries
take the presidency in turn. At the moment Germany is responsible
for the permanent General Secretariat.
- Commissions
:
-
Professional training
- Environment
- Responsibility of producers
- Company management
- Economic studies and statistics.
- Work
groups:
-
Cast steels
- Ductile cast irons
- Non-ferrous materials
- Precision foundries with consumable patterns
- Rolls for rolling mills.

The purpose of
the ZINC FONDERIE Association is the promotion and development
of applications of zinc alloys. Consequently, it brings
together professionals in zinc alloy casting including producers,
foundries, equipment and consumable suppliers. Specifically,
the ZINC FONDERIE Association carries out promotion and
information campaigns firstly with customers, and secondly
for engineering students.

This federation
includes 14 professional associations to which companies
belong, either as a function of the substances that they
produce or transform (aluminum, copper, nickel, etc.) or
as a function of the nature of their activities (industrial
ore or mineral extraction, primary or secondary metal production,
initial metal transformation).
